This fully automatic back-up system is designed for use in rainwater harvesting systems. It safeguards the system from running out of water by providing a controlled link to the mains. The float valve delivers a limited quantity of mains water (approximately 10% of the tank volume) to the storage tank whenever the stored water level falls below a pre set minimum. |
The automatic mains back-up system consists of a mains water feed sited outside the storage tank controlled by a float valve sited inside the tank.
The mains water feed incorporates a solenoid valve and a 50 mm stainless steel feeding hopper. The solenoid valve is automatically activated when the volume in the tank falls below a pre-set level.
The feeding hopper provides an inbuilt type AA air gap to conform with the current Water Regulations. The feed is sized from 1/2” to 2” depending on site conditions. The automatic mains back-up needs a fused spur protected by an RCD and a suitably sized mains water supply. In domestic properties it is best sited in a utility room or garage though may be installed under the stairs.
Mains water feed consists of: brass ball valve with a dirt trap made of stainless steel, mesh size 0.65 mm, connecting pressure hose with non-return valve, solenoid valve with 1.5m connecting cable and electrical plug, 50mm stainless steel feeding hopper with nozzle for spray-free filling.
With 3 bar pressure the mains feed will provide the following volumes of water:
| 1/2" | 2.64 m³/h |
| 3/4” | 6.48 m³/h |
| 1” | 8.64 m³/h |
| 1 1/2” | 20.52 m³/h |
| 2” | 34.92 m³/h |
